Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy

The Tuckahoe Orthopaedic physicians in this subspecialty focus on treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries and conditions typically experienced by athletes, active adults and injured workers. Problems with the bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons of the knees, ankles and shoulders are frequently diagnosed and treated, after which many patients are able to return to an active lifestyle including competitive sports, employment, daily exercise, and recreational activities.

When surgery is indicated, our surgeons, Drs. John Meyers, William Beach, Shannon Wolfe, and Paul Caldwell typically utilize arthroscopic (minimally invasive) techniques. Because of the use of small incisions with arthroscopic procedures, recovery time is generally reduced and patients return to normal activities in a shorter period of time.

In addition to their clinical practices, our sports medicine physicians are actively involved as faculty members of Orthopaedic Research of Virginia, a non-profit research and educational organization affiliated with our practice. In this role, they utilize their experience and expertise to teach young surgeons to perform arthroscopic procedures. In addition, they enjoy providing physician medical coverage to the following area sports teams: Deep Run High School, J. R. Tucker High School, Hermitage High School, Goochland High School, The Collegiate Schools, St. Christopher’s School, and Randolph Macon College.
