Dr. Fred J. McGlynn is a member of the Joint Replacement Team at Tuckahoe Orthopaedics. He received his medical degree from University of Virginia. After completing his internship and residency at University of Iowa, he was awarded a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction and Children’s Orthopaedics, also at University of Iowa. (A fellowship is a specialized training program that a physician chooses to pursue after completing medical school and residency training.)
Dr. McGlynn and his medical staff treat adult patients with hip, knee, and shoulder problems resulting from arthritis, injuries, and trauma. Many patients benefit from conservative treatments and less invasive surgeries including arthroscopy. However, others will require more invasive surgery. He specializes in joint replacement surgery…performing over 400 total joint replacements of the knee, hip, and shoulder each year.
He serves as an Associate Clinical Professor at Medical College of Virginia. He also teaches orthopedic physicians participating in the Adult Reconstruction Fellowship Program at MCV.
Dr. McGlynn has a passion for mission work and has traveled all over the world to help children and adults in need. He’s the co-founder of Salva Vida Medical Foundation. This foundation is devoted to saving lives through mission trips to impoverished countries. More recently, he’s organized and participated in numerous trips to Haiti since the January 2010 earthquake.
“I love getting up each day and doing what I do. I enjoy working with a medical team that is dedicated to helping those in need. We try to treat patients and their families as if they were our family.”
Sports have always been important to Dr. McGlynn. He played soccer while at University of Virginia. He continues to play competitive tennis. He also enjoys hiking and spending time with his family…which now includes three grandchildren!
