Hand/Upper Extremity
The hand surgery program at Tuckahoe Orthopaedics under the direction of Dr. John Blank focuses on the care of patients with musculoskeletal conditions and injuries affecting the bones, ligaments, tendons, vascular, and nerve structures of the hand, wrist, and elbow.
Problems in these areas can arise from arthritis, acute traumatic injuries such as fractures and dislocations, tendon, nerve and vascular lacerations, nerve compression, tumors, and congenital conditions. The human hand has more bones and moving parts that most other areas of the body and when they are healthy all the parts work together to perform tasks that range from delicate movements to those that require vast strength. When problems are present, strength and fine motor skills are affected.
Our subspecialty trained hand surgeon, Dr. John Blank, treats conditions such as*:
- arthritis of the forearm, elbow, wrist and hand
- nerve entrapments including carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome
- extensor/flexor tendon injuries
- cysts, trigger finger, and deQuervain’s tendinitis
- elbow, injuries including lateral epicondylitis
- congenital abnormalities of the upper extremity
- sports injuries involving ligament tears of the elbow, wrist and hand
- work-related injuries
